Victor Aviat studied oboe and piano in Zurich with Louise Pellerin and in Geneva with Maurice Bourgue. As an oboist he was member of the Karajan academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, he later became Claudio Abbado’s principal oboe in his appearances with Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Orchestra Mozart. Based in Berlin, Victor Aviat is now appointed Principal Oboe of the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer and plays regularly at the same position with ensembles such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe or the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under Riccardo Chailly. As a Soloist, he played with Emmanuel Krivine, Reinhard Göbel, Claudio Abbado and others. Since 2020 he has been invited to give masterclasses by world established institutions such as the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig or more recently the Musik Akademie Tirol along musicians such as Matthieu Dufour, Johannes Moser and Anne Sophie von Otter.
Alongside his career as an oboist, in 2010 Victor Aviat developed a great interest in conducting and launched his international career as a finalist of the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award in 2014 after his conducting studies in Zurich and Leipzig. He attracted much attention for his work in a production of Offenbach’s lost opera Le Roi Carotte. Working together with publishers Boosey & Hawkes, Victor Aviat led this restored opera at the Opéra de Lyon, from where it was broadcasted on television and radio. The production was named Best Production of a Rediscovered Work at the International Opera Awards 2016. Victor Aviat is also an active figure in modern music, his recording project with the Zafraan Ensemble and KNM Berlin of Christophe Bertrand’s whole work, produced by WDR for the label Bastille Musique has led to the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik 2020. In previous years Victor Aviat has also made guest appearances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Wiener Philharmoniker (Salzburger Festspiele), Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Aahrus Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Bern Symphony Orchestra, etc. Additionally, he gave a series of concerts with the Budapest Festival Orchestra both as a soloist and as a conductor.
Victor Aviat’s first work “Sur le Danube” has been played by the Orchestre National de France under the baton of Emmanuel Krivine at la Maison de la Radio, Paris, in December 2019 for the annual New Year Concert.
